In this exclusive interview, Quita B. speaks with the multi-talented Rita Brent, who made the bold leap from announcer to celebrated comedian and TV writer.
Rita takes us through her incredible journey, starting as a radio broadcaster at Jackson State University’s WJSU, advancing to MS Public Broadcasting, and eventually transitioning into the world of comedy. Along the way, she’s written for prestigious events such as the Emmy Awards, CMA Awards, and the upcoming Grammy Awards.
Rita also discusses the invaluable mentorship she’s received from comedy icons Rickey Smiley and Cedric the Entertainer, and how facing professional obstacles inspired her to create her own talk show, Late Night with Rita Brent. The inaugural show will feature notable guests like Dr. Roderick Little (Director of Sonic Boom of the South), T.C. Taylor (JSU Football Head Coach), legendary blues artist Bobby Rush, and Dr. Nashlie Sephus (founder and CEO of The Bean Path).
