Justin Cosey is a native New Orleanian and a proud New Orleans Saints Who Dat! Fan. He loves good music especially jazz, R&B and rap. There is no doubt The Big Easy has influenced his love for music and part of the reason he aspires to excel as a music media personality.
His passion for music was sparked early on by his dad whose collection of old albums from every genre was always playing in the house. Justin was also exposed to a few New Orleans rappers, such as Juvenile and The Hot Boyz, while his brother was recording in various studios across the city. That exposure may have led to his first attempt at production as he began to mix and sell CDs to friends and family.
In addition to his love for music, he is equally passionate about removing the stigma associated with mental health in the African American community. Since benefitting from counseling for anxiety and depression, Cosey has been an advocate for mental health awareness and openly discusses the importance and value of it, specifically for African American males.
His vision and career goal is to highlight both his passions – music and mental health for the uplifting of his community. It’s his love for both that’s led to his focus in Journalism and Media Studies at Jackson State University, but it’s his blessing that WJSU has allowed him to begin his journey.
Stay tuned – JCo is coming your way!
